Ancient Machines: The Lady in the Radiator is the Heroine

The Lady in the Radiator is the heroine of Eraserhead. That’s right: the heroine. I’ve been thinking about this since 2010, when I began my first serious attempt to get inside the artistic process that led to Eraserhead. I have read no interpretation that comes close to giving her proper place in David Lynch’s mythic meta-dreamscape. What follows is my attempt to explore at least some of the thematic aspects of Eraserhead, especially as they pertain to The Lady in the Radiator.

Silencio made a splash into the Lynchian fan community with their debut album,  “Music Inspired by the Works of David Lynch and Angelo Badalamenti,” in 2012. Since then, they have been touring, performing and working on their second record, “She’s Bad,” which was released today.

A ‘Lynchian’ Party Soundtrack, Courtesy Wayne Coyne | The Dinner Party Download

Wayne Coyne has fronted the multi-Grammy winning psych-rock band The Flaming Lips since its inception in 1983. This week, he and the band joined up with Karen O, Donovan, and other rock stars for a concert celebrating the music of filmmaker David Lynch, to benefit the David Lynch Foundation. Coyne built us a playlist for the next time you have David over for dinner.
