Philadelphia Psychotronic Film Society – April meeting #1
Programmer: Cinedelphia Film Festival The first of two special April meetings guest programmed by the CFF! A guest speaker will introduce the film, which is appropriate for any audience accustomed to exploitation/genre films of the 1970s. The above image does not reflect the film that will be screened. We are the most informal of film clubs, providing free screenings of cult/weirdo/B-movie fare, meeting on the second and final Monday of every month at PhilaMOCA for one full movie and maybe…
2017 Cinedelphia Film Festival presents BLUE VELVET REVISITED (Philly Premiere) In 1985, a young German filmmaker Peter Braatz was invited by David Lynch to Wilmington, North Carolina, to document the making of his new film. Over the following two months, Peter was given unrestricted access to set, cast, crew and director, collating hours of behind the scenes footage, in depth interviews, and thousands of photographs. The resulting ‘No Frank In Lumberton’ film, released in 1988 with highly limited distribution, has…
The Cinedelphia Film Festival is proud to present visionary actor/filmmaker Neil Breen’s first-ever Philadelphia appearance! Breen has become a staple of the midnight movie circuit in recent years with his work drawing comparisons to everyone from David Lynch to Tommy Wiseau. His films, all of which he writes, directs, and stars in, tackle themes of corruption on social, federal, and global levels, exposing the dark underbelly of modern society in hope of a better tomorrow. Breen’s charming sincerity, unique acting…
The 2017 Cinedelphia Film Festival presents An Evening with Alex Cox featuring an extended chat/Q&A, meet and greet, and screening of REPO MAN! Few modern filmmakers have had a career as extensive and diverse as Alex Cox. Best known as the creator of punk cinema classics REPO MAN (1984), SID & NANCY (1986), and STRAIGHT TO HELL (1987), Cox’s career veered in a new direction with the release of the Nicaragua-set WALKER (1987), an intentionally anachronistic biopic of mercenary William…
The 2017 Cinedelphia Film Festival presents the Philly Premiere of Tombstone-Rashomon with writer/director Alex Cox in attendance! The Gunfight at the O.K. Corral only happened once, but has been tirelessly recreated in films, television shows and western towns ever since. No one has a monopoly on truth, and in Tombstone Rashomon, the truth is shared by six conflicting, yet historical perspectives. In doing so, the film’s narrative becomes prismatic and the result is perhaps the most comprehensive telling of the…
The 2017 Cinedelphia Film Festival is so excited to host a BEYOND VAUDEVILLE/ODDVILLE, MTV retrospective and live taping of a new episode! Beyond Vaudeville was a masterpiece of televised variety shows, an expertly curated showcase of amateur talents and nostalgia-inducing celebrities housed within the confines of a crowded, Manhattan-based public access television station. For ten years, from 1986 to 1996, awkward host Frank Hope and his violence-prone sidekick David Greene created some of the most memorably strange and uncomfortably compelling…

The 2017 Cinedelphia Film Festival proudly presents the first-ever Philadelphia performance from 1970s gay garage/disco icon Laurice! Wales-born garage/disco icon Laurice has a long history in the music industry, his most notable success being the 1973 pre-punk hits “When Christine Comes Around” and “I’m Gonna Smash Your Face In” recorded under the band name Grudge. Influenced by the work of Lou Reed, Laurice relocated to North America in the 1970s where he pioneered the genre of gay-centric macho rock, showcasing…
The 2017 Cinedelphia Film Festival presents the Philly Premiere of On the Sly: In Search of the Family Stone! An obsessive fan’s quest to locate the whereabouts of 1970s musical icon Sly Stone forms the basis of this 2017 Slamdance documentary selection. Director/Subject Michael Rubenstone and Executive Producer Todd Shotz, both Philly-born and raised, in attendance! Michael Rubenstone, a first-time filmmaker and Sly and the Family Stone super fan, sets out to find the band’s leader, the reclusive funk legend…
