The long awaited Cultureal Album is finally being released!!! Come Celebrate with us as we share 11 Original songs with the Universe via printed CD. These are meaningful songs that I hope will help the world in many ways. Some songs soothe as to make living in this confusing world more pleasant. Other songs drive you to question your surroundings, your reality, your government, and your own thought process. Every song is easy to dance to and we have managed to catch the vibe of what we do live. Like a jazz group we interact and improvise making the music a living language that is difficult to capture in our modern multi-tracking facilities. I am proud to release this album of my compositions performed by one of the best bands a hopeful soul like myself could ever hope to be at the head of. Most love Cultureal!!!

Please spread the word to help this music make a positive effect on the world. Love!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Cultureal will be performing a set with our full ensemble including the Earthtones( Sonni Schwartzbach, Dena Epstein, and Sammy Flicker) including special guest Aly Paige-Newitt, The Real Horns (Elder Elf Elliott Levin, Adam Hershberger, Larry Toft) Wesley Rast, Sargie, Adam Marshall Flicker, Ray Raggamuffin, and special guest Brian Marsella making his first Philadelphia appearance with Cultureal. We have the pleasure of being able to use the B3 Organ courtesy of Underground Arts!!!

Sonni Shine and the Underwater Sounds will also be performing!!! This unique and powerfully creative unit will surely bring a set worth remembering. Sonni is one of the most talented vocalists in Philadelphia and her voice expresses a wide span of emotions and topics. The Underwater’s sound is a tasteful blend of many styles including rock, reggae, psychedelia, and folk to mention a few.

Members of West Philadelphia Orchestra will play a roaming set at the end of the night to keep this most epic of dance parties going into the wee hours!!! This energetic Balkan Brass Band has received accolades from all corners of Philadelhpian Culture. They are sure to make you to jump and twist in ways you may not have pictured yourself doing, but it’s inevitable.

Katie Barbato will be performing an acoustic set. Katie and I go way back to my time at Berklee College of Music when we were in the same class together. Katie was a Songwriting major and I was a Professional Music (Ear Training, World Studies) major. I was always drawn to her emotional depth as a musician and as a person. She has something to say and a unique, convincing way of getting it across.

Philewephia is a group of Philadelphian World musicians including Shawn Hennessy, Wesley Rast and Joshua Winer, who will be performing classical music of the Ewe speaking peoples of Ghana, Togo, and Benin. This is a very special music and it has influenced us in ways too numerous to mention. Ewe music truly deserves our highest respects.

Sacred Vibration is a reggae group headed by Red Lion Anthony Curry. A kind sould with a gentle lyrical touch Sacred Vibration is sure to become a force of love in our city.

Rae Bronze from Philly NORML will speak about the issues of our time. NA Poe will be hosting throughout the evening. The Panic Hour will be previewing their Fringe show “FEDERAL DETENTION: the Musical!” Also there will be other random and not so random things going on around the space so jump right in and enjoy yourself!!

Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy and Dawn McCarthy

The Murphy Beds

Doors: 8:00 pm / Show: 8:30 pm

$20.00 – $22.00

As children, the music of The Everly Brothers touched Dawn McCarthy and Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy; it touches Dawn’s children and the little ‘prince’ within Bonny today, and makes them dance and sing. The Brothers’ harmonies make the hairs stand up – they enervate and inspire. Beyond the visceral impact of any one song, any “So Sad” or “Devoted to You” that rings out from the radio on any given day, there is also the tracks that the Brothers trod over the course of several decades of singing together and making records. They didn’t stand still and neither did their songs. And so, What the Brothers Sang is no mere gesture of nostalgia; these new versions rethink The Everly Brothers for the audience of listeners today, people who naturally might have no knowledge or experience with those songs. Why should they? It’s not everyone who trawls through the dust of the past for their pleasures. Most of us live today – and so, for today, these songs are made.

Ian Cross had a vision for The Trestle Inn, his dimly-lit go go bar under the Reading Viaduct in Callowhill: floor to ceiling projections of retro videos would stream on the wall while customers sipped whiskey sours and made their way to the dance floor. Only problem was that the projection software was a nightmare.

Between the beautiful weather, the Backyard Barbecue at The Trestle Inn (featuring sidewalk burlesque by Bella Tricks), and the “Sweet Lovin’” Proposition Tent sponsored by Fringe Arts, Philadelphia’s post-industrial “Eraserhood” neighborhood was filled with light, love, and beauty this lovely July First Friday.
