Support the Rail Park Construction Tickets, Thu, Jun 29, 2017 at 7:00 PM | Eventbrite

Description

In October 2016, the Center City District (CCD) broke ground on Phase 1 of the Rail Park. Stretching from Broad Street at Noble to Callowhill between 11th and 12th Streets, this historic quarter mile will soon become our city’s newest elevated public park, with a distinctive design that celebrates Philadelphia’s industrial past and cultural heritage.

Join us on Thursday, June 29 from 7 to 11 p.m. at the Prohibition Taproom as we grow awareness of the project and raise funds to help us close the funding gap for Phase 1 construction.

Proceeds from the sale of select drafts and a signature cocktail will go directly to support construction.

Receive Rail Park Construction updates from Center City District.

Support the Rail Park through the Center City District Foundation.

Call for Artists – Hurry Up and Wait — Asian Arts Initiative

Hurry Up and Wait
A juried exhibition at Asian Arts Initiative in Philadelphia
Curated by Adriel Luis

Exhibition: September 1 – December 15, 2017
Opening reception: Friday, September 8, 6-8pm
Submission Deadline: Monday, July 10, 2017

CURATORIAL STATEMENT
Migration can seem like a single, bold act – the crossing over a border, the trip across an ocean, the transport from point A to point B. But the process is actually a series of steps that include correspondences, forms and often a whole lot of waiting – these individual tasks can be their own bureaucracies, each shrouded in mystery and inconsistency, despite the millions of people throughout the world who navigate them.

Recently, immigration in the United States has become even more convoluted, with ad-hoc travel bans, stop-and-go deportation policies and hearsay visa requirements all adding confusion to an already-complex experience.

Hurry Up and Wait is an exhibition featuring art that explores these moments within a moment. Hidden between the drama and debate of immigration are nuances, glitches, errors and fineprint that can be frustrating, mundane, anti-climactic – and sometimes even surprisingly simple. Here we encounter the tensions where policy and humanity meet – the range of emotions, wonder, assumptions and discoveries that make migration much more than simply a political issue.

20% Discount for Eraserhood Denizens!! Food/Film: Eraserhead – Fringe Arts

That’s right!! the code “eraserhood20” will get Eraserhood Denizens 20% off tickets for the FringeArts screening of David Lynch’s Philadelphia-inspired masterpiece Eraserhead, inclusive of a surrealist dish from the kitchens of La Peg. I suspect the offer is only good while seats last, of course, so grab them while you still can!

Monday, May 15 at 8 PM – 10 PM

“What makes Eraserhead great—and still, perhaps the best of all Lynch’s films? Intensity. Nightmare clarity. And perhaps also it’s the single-mindedness of its vision.” –Michael Wilmington, Chicago Tribune

David Lynch’s surreal and seminal feature-length film debut portrays Philadelphia as a desolate black-and-white industrial landscape, devoid of warmth. The film is at once a beautiful look into the mind of protagonist Harry (Jack Nance), a lost dreamer, and a haunting portrayal of marriage and responsibility.

$20 ($16 after entering discount code “eraserhood20”) / includes film and light meal (stay tuned for menu details)

Get your tickets here: Food/Film: Eraserhead – Fringe Arts

Applicants may submit up to five works in any media. The deadline for the open call is Sunday, May 7th, 2017. A new discounted submission fee will be extended to any early applications submitted before April 14th. She also co-directs Los Angeles gallery and project space As It Stands LA. Currently, Dean’s research, writing, and visual work explore the relationship and resonances between blackness, media, and communication and information technologies. She works primarily through text and sculpture to hypothesize an apocalyptic blackness.

Hartt is a Philadelphia-based artist whose work unpacks the social, cultural, and economic complexities of his various subjects. He has extensive experience using video and photography to carry out research related to vernacular cultures, anthropology, and architectural history.
