Sophia’s Play, winner of the #PAFADavidLynch film competition and inspired by Twin Peaks
The PAFA Film Project is designed to engage filmmakers with PAFA’s David Lynch: The Unified Field exhibition. Films submitted are encouraged to be inspired by art, PAFA’s David Lynch exhibition, and the city of Philadelphia — a city that Lynch has said to be both fantastic and terrifying.

Thursday, November 6, 2014, 6 – 8 p.m.
Spend an evening surrounded by the drawings and paintings of international filmmaker and PAFA alumnus David Lynch, while an incredible lineup of Philadelphia musicians and singers present a concert at the intersection of music, movies, and art. The performances will include everything from iconic movie tracks like Bobby Vinton’s “Blue Velvet” and the Angelo Badalamenti/Jimmy Scott collaboration “Sycamore Trees” (Twin Peaks), to music that David Lynch himself has found inspiring. Curated by Victor Fiorillo, Philadelphia Magazine’s Arts & Entertainment Editor, the lineup of performers includes Northern Arms, Stinking Lizaveta, Pattern Is Movement, Teena Geist, Martha Graham Cracker, James Sugg, Maxx Stoyanoff-Williams, and Murmuration.
$10 for PAFA Members; $20 General Admission

Philadelphia’s cult fried chicken and donut shop Federal Donuts launched a collection of bespoke donuts to commemorate David Lynch’s Fall 2014 exhibit at Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, where Lynch enrolled as an advanced painting student in 1966. “The Unified Field” is the first retrospective of the work he completed as a visual artist, with some 90 paintings and drawings on display until January 2015.
Federal Donuts created four custom flavors to fete the return of the storied director to Philadelphia, the city he credits as his greatest influence. Two thousand mini donuts were individually hand-dipped for the opening of the exhibit: the Twin Peaks-inspired “Cherry Pie” and “Good Coffee”; the “Chocolate Malted”; and the “Blue Velvet.”
We captured the process behind the recipe creation, learned what it’s like to taste art, and watched as Lynch enjoyed some damn good donuts.
