Nick Zedd – Both Nights – Tickets – PhilaMOCA – Philadelphia, PA – November 9th, 2017

This November, PhilaMOCA presents a two-night retrospective of the work of legendary filmmaker/author Nick Zedd! Zedd will be making his first-ever Philadelphia appearance, all the way from Mexico. The first night (Thursday, November 9) will focus on Zedd’s early work including fils that utilize “triple projection” (two 16mm projectors plus one digital); the second night (Friday, November 10) will feature later and current work including premieres of recent shorts made in Mexico.

Nick Zedd’s accomplishments are as varied as they are notorious. A central figure in NYC’s underground art scene of the 1980s, Zedd coined the term “cinema of transgression” to encompass his films as well as those of his collaborators/acquaintances including Lydia Lunch, Richard Kern, and Lung Leg. His 1979 debut THEY EAT SCUM gave birth to the “death rock” musical genre. Within the pages of his esteemed Underground Film Bulletin Zedd authored his classic Cinema of Transgression Manifesto in which he proposed that “all film schools be blown up and all boring films never be made again”. He has written several novels including two autobiographies and is also a prolific painter and performer.

Zedd’s films have screened worldwide for decades. Recent hosts of his work include the Berlin International Directors Lounge, New York’s Museum of Modern Art, and New York’s New Museum where he was presented with the Acker Award for Lifetime Achievement. Zedd has also appeared as a subject in the documentaries Llik Your Idols (2007) and Blank City (2010). He continues to create art of varied disciplines from his current home in Mexico City.
