I have also included email addresses and snail mail addresses in case anyone want to write a letter! Please feel free to share this with your neighbors and other supporters of The Rail Park.

We are writing to you today to express our strong support for the application submitted by the Center City District [CCD] for a Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program grant in support of Phase 1 improvements to the Reading Viaduct in Philadelphia.Center City District has been a key partner in this effort since 2009, when they began working with the neighbors of the Reading Viaduct and Callowhill Neighborhood Association to coordinate the extensive community engagement and planning process exploring the preservation and reuse of the Reading Viaduct east of Broad Street as an elevated park. As a result of that process, this project is embraced and supported by the Philadelphia City Planning Commission and included in the City’s comprehensive plan. Making Phase 1 of the project a reality is critical to leveraging the building momentum of support for this project towards implementing the full vision.
Phase 1 of the Reading Viaduct fits very well within the economic development goals of the RACP. The economic impact of this public investment promises to bring a number of benefits, including attracting new businesses, new residents and new investment to the Callowhill neighborhood and nearby Center City, creating new jobs, and providing a much needed community asset in an area with no public park. As a new destination within blocks of the Pennsylvania Convention Center and some of our City’s most celebrated arts and cultural destinations, we believe it will both draw visitors to the City and boost local spending. With a direct connection to the Avenue of the Arts, this project will also serve to reinforce ongoing efforts to raise the profile of and promote reinvestment along North Broad Street.
