Flicking through the alphabetised racks of your local CD emporium you’ll find that releases from Australian electro wizards The Presets fit snugly between Pet Shop Boys and Elvis Presley. Could there be some weird universal synergy to this? The strident beat of the heart and the swagger of the hips: it’s at this musical cross point of emotive technological peaks and primal caveman rock that one finds The Presets.

CASH MONEY at the Proposition Tent
First Friday May 3rd, 7pm–10pm
North 11th and Carlton Streets
(Between Wood and Callowhill Streets, across from Vox Populi and The Trestle Inn) (map)The Proposition Tent combines a range of compelling ideas rooted in the local Philly neighborhoods and the international stage. And it provides a chance to shake up the format for what an art show can be and who can be in it. The Proposition Tent isn’t just an art show—it is a convivial space for the communication of ideas.
CASH MONEY explores the idea that financial systems possess a malleable form. Money and finance can be shaped to do different things like artwork. Features work by Julieta Aranda and Anton Vidokle of e-flux; Miranda July; Paul Glover; South Philly Co-op; and a statement by Antanas Mockus, former mayor of Bogota, which will be read aloud by Ariel Vasquez.
The Proposition Tent will appear each First Friday from May to July 2013. This monthly one-night-only laboratory and social space features propositions on a theme by four sets of participants: a local artist, an international artist, a local business or non-profit, and the words of a thinker/philosopher. Upcoming themes: Pizza (June) and Sweet Lovin’ (July).

The first restaurant to open on the street was founded in the same building as Lofts 640. The Northern Italian eatery Osteria was created by restaurateur Marc Vetri who runs three other restaurants in the city. One of Vetri’s other restaurants called Alla Spina is located just off North Broad Street on Mount Vernon Street.
Restaurateur Stephen Starr entered Spring Garden in late 2011. He opened a seafood restaurant called Route 6 on 600 N. Broad St. The business shares a building with an event venue which was also launched in 2011 called Vie. The 17,000-square-foot space was the brainchild of Joe Volpe, chief executive officer of Cescaphe Event Group.
The developers of these companies were able to bring traffic to North Broad Street due to their esteem in the restaurant and business worlds.
