“This strategic plan really represents what the community said they would like to see on North Broad,” says Shalimar Thomas, executive director of North Broad Renaissance.

Construction crews on the Divine Lorraine apartments have been hard at work since breaking ground last fall on the historic hotel, and the first set of staged apartments should be ready for tours this July.

The building at 990 Spring Garden St. was built almost ninety years ago, initially functioning as a warehouse for the Philadelphia Wholesale Drug Company. In its last incarnation, the interior of the building was chopped up into a collection of small office spaces, though the outside maintained a certain gravitas that we’ve always appreciated.

This year, a Pennsylvania Horticultural Society pop-up is offering a preview of the upcoming Viaduct Rail Park. Last December, we reported on PHS’ plans for an installation somewhere along the planned promenade in the Callowhill neighborhood (our recent On the Ground home) and now a new summer beer garden is open at 10th and Hamilton Streets on the north side of Viaduct.
