Asian Arts Initiative Community Craft and Fair

Asian Arts Initiative presents its annual holiday shopping event
Supporting Local Artists and its Youth Program

WHAT: ASIAN ARTS INITIATIVE invites community members to join us in our annual holiday shopping event of the year. As the only Asian American-focused holiday fair in Philadelphia, the Community Craft and Fair provides a unique opportunity to shop original artwork and an array of jewelry, crafts, accessories, and more handcrafted by local artists and artisans. Alongside our community vendors, the students of the Youth Art Workshop (YAW) will be selling a new lineup of products (e.g. holiday cards, body scrubs) they have created for the event. Proceeds from student sales go back to the students and their program. Come and shop consciously with us!

WHEN: Saturday, December 6th from 12 to 4 pm.

WHERE: On the Third Floor of Asian Arts Initiative, 1219 Vine Street, Philadelphia, PA 19107
Free and Open to the Public.

WHO: The Community Art and Craft Fair will showcase work from local vendors, including:

  • Art/Works
  • Sour Tiger
  • Hello Prosper
  • Love Lola Knits
  • Janette’s Cupcakes
  • Natasha Zeta
  • Stephanie Stoner
  • Threee
  • Helen Sánchez Stoddard

Give to something that’s growing 🌿

In 2019, you brought the Rail Park to life. This year, you brought laughter and joy to the Rail Park. You had conversations with neighbors.  You took walks, watched the seasons change, enjoyed dance and music performances, stargazed, and made new friends.  And we are just getting started.

This #givingtuesday, we are asking for more than your gift — we are asking you to join our movement. Together, we are bringing a new kind of park to life, one that will connect 10 different neighborhoods with three miles of bike lanes, gathering space, and greenery for all.

We can’t do it without you. You made Phase I happen by banding together with friends and neighbors to demand a brighter future for our City. With your support, we grew to a team of two full-time staff who work tirelessly to make the dream of the Rail Park a reality — connecting thousands of neighbors to nature, creating inspiring cultural experiences, and laying the groundwork for Phase 2.  Today, give to something that’s growing.  DONATE.

Per a story from Inquirer.com, Parkway has decided to sell the property to Alterra Property Group, and Alterra is taking a very different approach to the site. Instead of two separate buildings, they will build a single structure that rises seven stories. The building will contain a sizable retail space on the first floor, for which Alterra is targeting a supermarket, and we imagine that people in the area would welcome such an amenity. In the six stories above the potential market, we’d expect 498 apartments, though the Inquirer story indicated that some of those units might get switched out in favor of office space. If you have concerns about parking, rest assured, two levels of underground parking garage with 283 spots should satisfy any parking needs associated with the building. Here are some renderings from JKRP Architects, thanks to the Civic Design Review packet for the project.
