Obey Giant’s “The Stamp of Incarceration: James… – City of Philadelphia Mural Arts Program
Obey Giant‘s “The Stamp of Incarceration: James Anderson” comes in at #5 on our list of most popular murals of 2015.
The mural, part of our Open Source exhibition, was designed by Shepard Fairey and painted by men who are incarcerated at Graterford State Correctional Institution. You can find it installed at 1131 Callowhill Street.
Shepard’s “Stamp of Incarceration” series depicts people who were incarcerated, but are now doing inspiring and noteworthy things with their lives. For this mural, Shepard chose to highlight James Anderson, a human rights activist and Program Administrator at The Anti-Recidivism Coalition. The portrait is based on a photo by Barbara Davidson.
