The Monochrome Set are an English post-punk band originally formed in 1978 from the remnants of a college group called The B-Sides (whose members had included Stuart Goddard, later known as Adam Ant). The band is notable for its witty lyrics, the laconic delivery of lead singer Bid, and the idiosyncratically retrogressive playing style of original lead guitarist Lester Square.

Tracing the Eraserhead Esthetic: Still from “Lolita” (Kubric, Stanley, 1962)
A reader recently shot [Naked Philly] an email, wondering about the large surface parking lot on the northeast corner of Broad & Spring Garden, catty corner to the recently opened Tower Place. This parking lot is next door to an attractive old school building, and has a really eye-catching mural on its eastern side.

Philadelphia’s literary magazine, The Apiary, is releasing their sixth issue next Saturday, and celebrating the publication with a party at the Underground Arts Building.

For years we have heard talk of turning the abandoned railroad tracks of the Reading Viaduct north of Center City into park space that would showcase Philadelphia’s rich industrial past. What started as wishful thinking, developing both the underground City Branch and the elevated viaduct, has become more hopeful with funding from foundations and organizations.
