Last week, a meeting was hosted at the F.A.C.T. Charter School on the 1000 block of Callowhill Street to discuss big picture planning issues for a large, loosely connected section of the Central District, referred to as the “Chinatown North/Callowhill section.” According to the meeting summary, this area can be separated into five neighborhoods: Poplar, Callowhill, Chinatown North, Superblocks (the area of low-rise buildings and parking lots between Old City and Northern Liberties), and the Waterfront. The results of this meeting, and others like it across town, will be used to inform the larger Phila2035 Central District Plan.

This August – for one night only – Grizzly Grizzly will be showcasing live performance works from a select group of eleven artists living in the Philadelphia/New York City region. The event will feature six different performances, unfolding over the course of the evening in the Grizzly Grizzly space and adjoining floor. Molly Denisevicz, Nadine Guerrera, Peter Morgan, Jordan Graw & Jared Burak, Adam Lovitz & Vince Johnson & Ritz Reynolds, and Kris Harzinski & Will Haughery & Chester Zecca will be – sometimes simultaneously – engaging the audience with radical, funny, mysterious, and off-putting actions and reactions. Like a popsicle on a hot August night, it will be both delightful and sticky.

The Philadelphia Mausoleum of Contemporary Art’s popular Tuesday Tune-Out series continues in August under the direction of guest curator Fred Knittel of Folkadelphia. The Tuesday Tune-Out format features a performance by a local musician at 8pm followed by a film screening of his/her/their choosing.

On Tuesday, August 7th, Folkadelphia is pleased to present the first installment of the curated Tuesday Tune-Out series. This edition will feature the primitive guitar wailing, joke slinging Brandon Morsberger and previous long-time Philly musical stalwart and buddy Don Black and his project Avolcano/Ghiant.

We’ll also be screening a cult 1980’s skateboard movie, MST3k style!

Folkadelphia is the folk music organization and weekly XPN2 radio show created by Fred Knittel. Through Folkadelphia, Fred hopes to introduce people to exciting new musicians and, with luck, change the way they perceive modern folk music. Folkadelphia radio is broadcast on XPN2 on WXPN Sundays from 3-5 PM and Tuesdays 6-8 PM.
